Die forging
Bar stock of surgical stainless steel is heated to forging temperature and struck in closed dies, so the grain follows the shape of the instrument.

From forge to theatre
Eight stages, from bar stock to a marked, inspected and packed instrument. Every instrument is traceable from its material certificate to its carton.
Manufacturing
Eight stages, from bar stock to a marked, inspected and packed instrument.

Stage 01
Bar stock of surgical stainless steel is heated to forging temperature and struck in closed dies, so the grain follows the shape of the instrument.

Stage 02
Flash is trimmed from every blank and the steel is annealed soft so it can be machined without stress cracks.

Stage 03
Jaws, serrations, ratchets and box locks are milled, then the two halves are hand-fitted so the joint moves smoothly with no play.

Stage 04
Instruments are hardened and tempered in controlled furnaces to the hardness each pattern needs — hard edges, springy handles.

Stage 05
Blades are ground and set by hand. Scissors are adjusted until they cut cleanly to the tip; forceps until the jaws meet evenly.

Stage 06
Satin, mirror or black-coated finishes are applied on buffing lines and glass-bead cabinets. Tungsten carbide inserts are brazed and ground.

Stage 07
Instruments are cleaned and chemically passivated to restore the chromium-oxide layer, then laser-marked with code, lot and your brand.

Stage 08
Every piece is checked under magnification for alignment, ratchet engagement, cutting and finish, then packed in pouches, boxes or cases.
